The Cerro San Pedro Sulfide exploration project (“CSP Sulfide”) commenced in July 2008. The objective of the CSP Sulfide project is to evaluate the potential of gold-silver-zinc-lead sulfide mineralization extending from beneath the current gold-silver oxide pit to an area of previous underground mining located approximately 500 meters to the southwest. Between 1929 and 1948 this area produced approximately 235,000 ounces of gold, 20 million ounces of silver, 405 million pounds of zinc, 224 million pounds of lead and 93 million pounds of copper from 2.2 million tonnes of high grade sulfide manto mineralization grading 2.2 Mt averaging 3.3 g/t gold, 282 g/t silver, 8.3% zinc, 4.6% lead and 1.9% copper. Distinctly different from the oxide style gold-silver mineralization currently being mined, the underlying sulfide zone represents a potentially significant addition to the mineral resource at Cerro San Pedro.
New Gold plans to complete an estimated 18,000 meters of exploration drilling on the Cerro San Pedro sulfide zone during 2009.
